So, the book "Howl's Moving Castle" by Diana Wynne Jones changed how I viewed the animated film by Studio Ghibli. I am ardently aware of the seams of that movie now, where Jones's writing ends and Miyazaki's begins.
I talk about this in my full review of this novel, but Miyazaki's version of "Howl's Moving Castle" was focused nearly exclusively on an anti-war narrative, whereas the book is more just a fantasy story. As to which version I personally prefer, I'm going to cop out and say that it's more interesting to read and watch both because how these two writers mixed their aesthetics is what I find most interesting.
