"Dragonvein" by Brian D. Anderson has a set-up—a soldier in WW2, unbeknownst to himself, is actually from a parallel universe of magic and dragons—that instantly resonated with me. It might be one of my favorite starting points in a book series.
As for the actual execution of the plot, well, it's ok. I don't know what I was expecting, but I'd have to say I thought there was going to be a little more dragons in this here dragon book. Part of this, I'm sure, is because this is a book one of a series. It still tells an engaging fantasy story, even if it was a shade predictable.
